⌜A Christmas Carol⌟ by Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens, a master of blending realism and idealism in his works, possessed extraordinary qualities that shine through in his storytelling. Despite the hardships of his boyhood, Dickens held a deep affection for Christmas.
His first formal expression of his Christmas sentiments began with "A Christmas Carol." The book was an immediate success, with Thackeray describing it as "a national benefit and a personal kindness.“
Illustrated by John Leech, whose lively drawings brought the characters to life, "A Christmas Carol" was followed by four more books: "The Chimes," "The Cricket on the Hearth," "The Battle of Life," and "The Haunted Man."
These five books are collectively known today as the "Christmas Books."
Among them, "A Christmas Carol" is the most well-known and beloved, perfectly capturing Dickens's warm holiday spirit.
